Getting Away from It All

Getting Away from It All

In this age of email, texting, Facebook, Twitter, and so on, how do we really get away from it all? Sure, we have our weekends and occasionally take vacations, but even then, do we really and truly get away from everything?

Even when I take vacation, I still check and respond to email every morning and every night. No one tells me I have to do that. I just do. Perhaps my preference for Feeling plays a role here; I don’t want to let anyone down or have someone think he or she is not important enough for me to respond to right away.

The desire to completely get away is what I’ll be exploring in my next blog series. I’ve decided that for the first time in 27 years I’m going to completely get away by going on an 8-day silent retreat.

Stay tuned…

  1. I can’t wait to read this series Michael. Looking forward to it.

    • Thanks Catey!

  2. Can’t wait to hear about the silent retreat! I wonder if a much larger proportion of those attending the retreat have preferences for Introversion – too bad you can’t ask everyone there and take a poll! Guess that would defeat the purpose of the silent retreat.

    • Thanks Melissa! It was an amazing experience.

  3. The thought of accomplishing this is very enticing.

    • I think you would find it very rewarding Chris. I’m looking forward to doing another silent retreat soon!

  4. Michael, I have enjoyed reading your blog. I have attended various retreats several years ago (Simplicity, Women and Spirituality) and have been considering attending one again. So your experience was of interest to me. I am a ENFP but have been so fatigued as of late with overload of information and stimulation ie TV, emails, social media etc. I want some unplugged silent time. Do you have some websites/retreats you have heard about that might be worth exploring? I live in the south but would travel if it did not break the bank. Thanks in advance

    • Thanks for your comment. I agree that it is important to get time to ourselves especially in this day and age that requires so much of us. The retreat I attended was at the El Retiro Retreat Center. They have lots of different retreats from weekend to thirty days. Here is a link: jrclosaltos.org.
