ENFP – “When I grow up, I want to be a ….”

ENFP – “When I grow up, I want to be a ….”

Written by Catherine Rains

Ask anyone at any age with N and P preferences (also known by me as the “super P’s”) what they want to be when they grow up, and they will usually reply that there are several careers they are still considering.  With a dominant of Extraverted Intuition, career possibilities are endless for this type, both for themselves and anyone in their sphere of influence and inspiration.

Although remaining open to multiple career options throughout their lives, the list of careers for ENFP preferences follows a consistent theme around wanting to make a difference in the world, and inspiring/supporting others to follow their dreams.  I’m sure you can see this theme in the sampling of careers and career fields identified by ENFP preferences who have attended my workshops: Higher Ed Student Affairs, Artist, Actor, Musician, Career Counselor, Religion, Non-profit, Coaching, Entrepreneur, Higher Ed Professor, Business Development Marketing, Lawyer, Author, Motivational Speaker, Trainer, Human Resources, Peace Corps, Environmental Education, Employee Assistance Program, Counselors of all types.

Call out to those of you who prefer ENFP – what others careers have you been attracted to?  The more we add to this list the better! Feel free to repeat what is already listed above.  We’re looking for the most comprehensive list possible so that others types fully understand what careers feel most natural to those of you who prefer ENFP.

  1. True to my Type, I still haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up. Hence, my career-of-choice is quite far from accidental. Starting with my earliest childhood dream until present day:

Singer, pianist, elementary school teacher, writer (fiction, not technical, which is too boring!), travel journalist, someone who travels, actress, career counselor, chef, newspaper or magazine editor, adult education teacher, professional traveller, career counselor, ESL teacher, college professor, psychologist, career counselor, high school guidance counselor, marriage & family therapist, career counselor, someone who gets paid to travel, motivational speaker, Myers-Briggs consultant, Myers-Briggs speaker, OR someone who gets paid to talk about the Myers-Briggs all day long… entrepreneur, business owner, author, career counselor.

Though my career of choice can be described by many names, at heart, I’m a good ‘ole career counselor. And I get paid to do what I love. WOW! My younger ENFP brain still often asks, “What if?”, but my other older ENFP brain answers, “This is what you’re meant to do.” I usually listen to the latter – but not all the time!

  2. For now, I’m a teacher of young children. 😉

    • Hey Lisa :)

How do you find being a teacher of young children?
      are you happy..?

I’m an ENFP who is considering being a teacher after being a graduate architect for the past 4 years
